ITV Show Highlights Hertfordshire Fraud Team
A special investigation by the ‘Tonight’ programme has featured Hertfordshire Constabulary’s specialist operation targeting fraudsters who prey on older people.

The programme featured the stories of elderly victims who had been the targets of sophisticated fraud attacks including courier fraud, where fraudsters pretend to be the police, or another authority.

The Hertfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner, David Lloyd, has put fraud against vulnerable people at the centre of his strategy and is pleased to see how well the Hertfordshire officers did in the programme.

He said:“Hertfordshire Constabulary takes a proactive stance on fraud against older people and it underlines the importance of the force’s preventative approach. I’m pleased that the hard work of the team of dedicated officers has had a national platform through the ITV ‘Tonight’ programme, as it is important for the public to see how our officers’ quick actions can make a difference.

In my Police and Crime Plan, I said the force must be a voice for the most vulnerable in society – and those who seek to take advantage of people in this way must be found and dealt with properly.”

If you’ve been the victim of fraud you can report it to Action Fraud or by calling 0300 123 2040 (textphone 0300 123 2050). Lines are open Monday to Friday, from 9am to 6pm.

You can watch the programme again here (limited time only).
