Regional Co-ordinator for Victim Services Commissioning sought

Six Police and Crime Commissioners have joined forces to plan for their new role in contracting services for victims of crime. From April 2015, Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) take over responsibility for commissioning victim services from the Ministry of Justice.

Hertfordshire’s Commissioner, David Lloyd, is working with Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk in seeking a senior project manager on a one-year secondment. The role is to co-ordinate the Eastern Region Victims’ Commissioning Programme.

The PCCs are looking for someone with experience of project management and managing change programmes as well as an understanding of the criminal justice system and commissioning processes and principles.  If you have previously worked with victims of crime that would be an advantage.

Commissioner David Lloyd said: “This a major step towards fulfilling my crucial role as the provider of services for victims from next year.  Victims are at the very heart of the criminal justice system and should be at the centre of everything we do. I believe passionately in this principle and that is why it is a major theme in my Police and Crime Plan.

“I don’t want anyone to be of victim of crime but, realistically, this will happen to some people, thankfully few in Hertfordshire. But, if you do fall prey to a criminal offence, I want you to be given every support you need.  You should be kept informed of every step of the investigation as well as given emotional support and practical advice if you need it.

“There are many organisations across the county providing top class support to victims of various types of crime, some of which I have visited personally and some I have already supported with funding from my Commissioner’s Community Fund.  I see local providers playing a very positive part of a network of support to victims in Hertfordshire.”

Currently, the charity Victim Support, with a number of volunteers working across the county, is commissioned by the Ministry of Justice to provide the service in Hertfordshire.
