Commissioner welcomes announcement for new community rehabilitation company
Police and Crime Commissioner David Lloyd has welcomed the Government’s announcement of a preferred bidder for probation services in Hertfordshire.
The Ministry of Justice revealed a list of preferred bidders for the 21 new probation areas across the country on Wednesday (29th October) as part of its Transforming Rehabilitation programme.
Sodexo, in partnership with the charity Nacro, has been awarded this status for the BeNCH area (made up of Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire).
Commissioner Lloyd said: “I note the Government’s announcement with interest as the supervision of offenders is a key part of the criminal justice system and reoffending rates clearly have an impact on the overall levels of crime in Hertfordshire.
“The role of Police and Crime Commissioner extends beyond that of just policing and I’ll be keen to engage with and monitor the work of the new BeNCH organisation.
"It is vital that we look at new and innovative ways to break the cycle of reoffending and I look forward to working with the new criminal justice partner for our common aim of making Hertfordshire as safe as possible for the people who live and work in the county.”
